This video was about personal digital assistnads (PDA's). Students at a school in chicago used it to organize their homework and papers, and they used it while they were in class. One class used their PDA by dropping a probe in a pond to test the temperature differences. The PDA created a live graph for the students to look. I think the PDA is student centered and teacher centered because it students use it to organize homework, worksheets and for experiments, while teachers can use it to give out assignments for the students to have. This technology does make the lesson more engaging because the students are able to work with electronics which is more interesting than working with pen and paper. Also, the students are able to share their answers with the teacher and other students which is another way for them to communicate with one another. From a technological standpoint the teacher would need to know exaclty how the PDA works so that she and her students are able to get them most use out of it. Also, the teacher needs to think about how they can implement the PDA into her lessons so that all of the students are benfitting from it. To access student performance the teacher can see how well the students are answering the homework questions given on the PDA, and also how much the students are engaging in the lectures. One major advantage of this technology is the benefit it has for students with learning disabilities. The students are able to organize better and they feel more professional with the work they complete. Some challenges are problems with the technology not working properly, the students forgetting to bring it to school, or not having a strong idea of how the technology works.

Reflection 1: My technologies

After doing the first two worksheets and reading discussions on the blog, I came to the conclusion that my interests in technology are very similar to my peers. I love my digital camera and my cell phone. I also spend a significant amount of time on the internet. I have recently discovered and fell in love with YouTube. I also feel like some of the smaller technologies in the world get overlooked and are taken for granted even though we use them all of the time. Medical technology, for example, doesn’t get as much recognition as YouTube.

Reflection 2: M201 classroom technologies

I am in a second grade classroom that seems to have a lot of technology. They have three computers and a printer. They also have an overhead projector, a loud speaker for their school’s system, several pencil sharpeners and headphone sets. All of these things will contribute positively to their education and their overall classroom experience.

This is a good website for teachers who are interested in using Google Earth in their classrooms. It provides tips for adding Google Earth into your lesson plans and also instructions for doing so. One could use this website to introduce a geography lesson.

This website is a huge blog about Google Earth. It is organized by category so you can find specific discussions about Google Earth. For example, there is a category call Education where there are currently three discussions about teachers and their experiences with Google Earth in the classroom. This would be a good website to get advice or tips if you were considering using Google Earth in your classroom.

I really liked this website. It seems like it would be really fun but also educational. It would be very useful in a social studies or geography lesson. Another reason I like this website is because it could be used for educators, students or any person interested in Google Earth.

Google Earth is a great resource for school aged children to use because it gives them a different way to explore and learn about geography. Kids will like Google Earth because they are able to go online and use the computer to see close up and far away images of earth. I think that students will want to learn more about geography when they are given another way to learn besides looking a piece of paper and memorizing it.
Wikipedia explains how google earth uses satellite imagery, aerial photography and GIS over a 3D globe which give very detailed, clear images of any place in earth that you would like to look at (even your house!).

This website gives many great ideas of how to incorporate google earth into the classroom. One idea is for students to learn more about topics such as the progress of human civilization, the growth of cities, the impact of civilization on the natural environment, and the impact of natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. This website compares Google Earth to playing a video game because you can view images at street level or you can view an image of the entire earth. There are also links to click on to get more inforamation about ways that Google Earth can be incorporated into the classroom.

I think that I understand the basics of blogging, but I would like to know more about the e-porfolio project. Our template is due for our e-portfolio, and I am a little confused about what exactly a template is. Does a completed template mean that there is a link bar, theme, background, projects posted and useful links posted?

My prior experience with technology is using the internet, word processing, YouTube, e-mail, PowerPoint, digital cameras and Google Earth. From this class I hope to learn more about the technologies I just listed, and other technologies so that I can give my students a good background on teachnologies that they will be able to use. I found the interactive whiteboard and synchronEyes to be the most interesting technologies discussed in class. I will be able to use SynchronEyes to keep my students on task, and I will also be able to use the interactive whiteboard to highlight important parts of the lesson that I am teaching.

Reflection 3: Summary of reflection 1 and 2

During my earlier years in school my teachers used power point, computers, internet and the overhead projector a lot in their lessons. I love to use the internet and I am always on the comptuer. It is such a great technologic innovation that we are so fortnate to be able to have. I am pretty efficiant on using the internet, powerpoint, word processing, email, and digital camera things.

My top five technology innovations that are so important to me that i don't know what I would do without them today are my cell phone, computer/internet, ipod, digital camera, and television. I think that all of these can also be incorporated into the classroom and its important to teach the next generation of children how to be efficiant with all of these different programs and things.
